Back-to-School Clothing and School Supply Giveaway!

The event is open to everyone in the community!

“In 2007,” said Becky Miller, coordinator of the event, “we had over 600 people attend, with 450 of them coming in the first hour! This year our goal is to hand out 750 backpacks complete with school supplies and dental care products. This increase has been made possible through the dedicated, overwhelming support of our congregation and generous community donations from Sunshine Dental, Lititz VFW Post 1463, American Legion Garden Spot Post 56, Wertsch Vision Associates, Stauffers of Kissel Hill, Lititz Family Practice Associates, Susquehanna Bank, Cloister’s Flooring America, Keller Bros. Ford, Fulton Bank, Bomberger’s Store and Roy’s Body Shop.”

The church’s social hall will be filled with infant through adult sized clothing--at no charge--to offer a way for families to extend their budgets and ease the financial strain of outfitting their children for school. Miller explains that the members of LUMC, who will fill over 100 volunteer slots to make the event a success, find the entire experience, “humbling."

“When we opened our eyes to the need around us, we realized that we can make a difference in someone’s life in our own small way,” Miller explained. “When you look into another person’s eyes and see that you have helped them find hope, the feeling is euphoric. The clothing bank is our way of helping each other in our community. We don’t have to go to the war-torn or weather-ravaged areas of the world to serve; there is work for us to do right here at home.”

The church is located at 201 E. Market St. in Lititz. From the square in Lititz follow Rt. 501 North. Turn right onto Market Street. Go two blocks, continue straight and turn left at the second driveway entrance just past the church. Follow this to the back parking lot. The entrance is the double-doors across from the pavilion.
